Our Mission
Health Through Action works to improve health and health care for Asian-American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander children, adults, and families who have limited access to health and health care services. This includes those who have cultural or language barriers, who cannot afford care, or who lack adequate health insurance. These problems affect many individuals and groups - new immigrants, people who are undocumented, those with low incomes, and people who are geographically or culturally isolated.
To help eliminate health disparities in these diverse communities, Health Through Action focuses on five major areas:
- Strengthening the capacity of local communities to conduct effective programming and advocacy. Nearly $5 million in grants were awarded to 8 community organizations across the US. Each organization was awarded $600,000 for 4 years.
- Developing and advancing a national AA&NHPI agenda
- Spurring increased data collection and research on AA& NHPI health
- Supporting the development and implementation of a Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander health agenda
- Building a national network of AA&NHPI organizations and coalitions aimed at achieving optimal health and well-being for their communities.
