Dr. Dexter Louie

Dr. Dexter Louie is an otolaryngologist in private practice in Chinatown, San Francisco, since 1977, and the Associate Medical Director of the Chinese Community Health Plan, a community-based HMO, since 1994. He was born in San Francisco and received his BA from Stanford University and his MD and residency training from Tulane University. Dexter then received his JD and MPA degrees from Golden Gate University, San Francisco.
Dexter is a trustee and current president of the Governing Board of the Moraga School District, Moraga, California. He is a past president of the San Francisco Medical Society. He is on the board of directors of the California Medical Association (CMA) Foundation and is current chair of the board. He has been on the California Wellness Taskforce and is a consultant to the CMA Foundation's Obesity and Type II Diabetes Prevention Project. The project involves a student-based, student-driven model for obesity prevention, and a grassroots, physician-based model for physician community leadership in obesity/diabetes prevention.
Dexter is on the Steering Committee of the Network of Ethnic Physicians Organizations, a project of the CMA Foundation, co-chair of the Steering Committee of the National Council of API Physicians. These organizations focus on issues of minority health and health care disparities, health care access, and cultural competency.
