The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) influences policy, mobilizes communities, and strengthens programs and organizations to improve the health of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) populations. Position Summary:
The Development Specialist will plan, implement and manage fundraising/development activities and strategies for APIAHF. Will also oversee the grant management and re-granting functions. This role works across the organization, supporting all the other branches in their ability to apply for and request funds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Fund Development:
- Implement a strategic fund development plan for a national organization with a $5+ million dollar annual budget
- Coordinate individual, major, corporate, institutional and endowment fundraising opportunities
- Support annual fundraising drives including the development of solicitation materials, research and identify foundation prospects
- Work closely with and support the Board of Directors on the board campaign
- Work with staff and volunteers on fundraising
- Create individual donor materials and letters
- Identify major donor prospects for unrestricted funding and management the implementation of solicitation strategies
- Represent the agency to external bodies and interests as required for fund development promotion
- Plan special fundraising events both locally and nationally
- Participate and coordinate efforts to raise $400-$600K per year
- Work with board, directors and other key staff to develop funding strategies, grant proposals and prepare narrative and financial reports
- Oversee maintenance of donor database; produce reports for executive team or board of directors as needed
Grants Management:
- Coordinate grants management process
- Respond to relevant Requests for Proposals and funder inquiries
- Assist with grant research and writing
- Create schedule of deliverables and measure progress
- Maintain grants and reporting calendars, including anticipated response dates for submitted proposals and likelihood of award
- Maintain accurate government, foundation, corporate information in grants management database
- Maintain accurate and complete electronic and hard copies of grant files
- Coordinate and participate in reporting to funders
Re-granting of fund to other organizations:
- Assist in developing and disseminating requests for proposals
- Support the process of proposals and the decision making processes
- Manage the files, correspondence and grant award letters
- Assuring receipt, filing, and review of reports from grantees
- Close-out activities for grants, including processing any approvals or final sign-offs
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or nine years of work experience with fundraising, fund development and/or grants reporting
- Minimum of three years’ experience in any of the following areas fundraising in either corporate or foundation giving, large individual grassroots and major donor solicitation
- One or more of the following: demonstrated ability to fundraise unrestricted funds; ability to cultivate relationships with major donors of various communities and with both community funds and major foundations
Skills, knowledge and abilities:
- Demonstrated fundraising ability
- Experience with grants management
- Excellent attention to detail
- Able to work in a cross team fashion – strong interpersonal and coordination skills are critical
- Ability to handle multiple projects at one time
- Demonstrated knowledge of AAPI community
- Familiarity with contact and database management systems
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
- Must be comfortable with public speaking and meeting facilitation
- Experience interacting with community, government, civic, business leaders, media and community based organizations
- Strong organizational skills and self-motivated
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and excellent judgment, confidentiality and discretion
- Able to travel
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or eleven years of experience with non-profits and fundraising
