In March 2010, President Barack Obama signed into law historic health care reform, a combination of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148) and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (P.L. 111-152). These new laws will provide 32 million currently uninsured individuals with health insurance coverage, make health care more affordable, and improve the quality of health care provided.

Butch de Castro, PhD, MSN/MPH, RN is Assistant Professor and Director, Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing Program Psychosocial & Community Health at the University of Washington, Seattle. Dr. de Castro received a bachelor's degree in Nursing from UCLA. He completed his doctoral and master's level training at The Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health specializing in occupational and environmental health.
He was also a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health.

Washington, DC - The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) applauds the release of the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) new report, "Clinical Preventive Services for Women: Closing the Gaps" which recommends the addition of a handful of preventive services for women to the list of covered services under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Across the country, talk of cutting Medicare and Medicaid has created a political firestorm – and some politicians say it’s necessary to balance the federal budget.
We couldn’t disagree more.
