The Men of Asia Testing for HIV (MATH) Study consortium is a multi-level, national research partnership that aims to collect behavioral and epidemiological data on 2000 Asian American and Pacific Islander men who have sex with men (MSM) conducted at 7 community-based partner sites in five major metropolitan areas to reflect the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Asian American and Pacific Islander communities and the community health infrastructure responding to it.

Despite our achievements in the fight against HIV/AIDS, recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data has shown that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have the highest percentage increase of HIV/AIDS diagnoses.
APIAHF's HIV Capacity Building Assistance (CBA) is client-centered and focuses on long-term skills-building and empowerment. We use cutting-edge theories and practices and focus our methods of delivery around Adult Learning Theory principals.
Our HIV CBA staff, subcontractors, and consultants are funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control to provide CBA in the following main areas:
- Organizational infrastructure and program sustainability
- Evidence-based interventions and Public Health Strategies
- Monitoring and Evaluation
Capacity Building Manager
Nickie Bazell, MPH, is a manager for the Organizational Capacity Building branch at the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF), a national health justice organization which influences policy, mobilizes communities, and strengthens programs and organizations to improve the health of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.
Nickie manages all program objectives and activities for the National Asian and Pacific Islander HIV Capacity Building Partnership funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Capacity Building Specialist
Sonya Dublin, MPH/MSW, is a capacity building specialist in the Organizational Capacity Building branch at the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF), a national health justice organization which influences policy, mobilizes communities, and strengthens programs and organizations to improve the health of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.
Sonya provides individualized support, training, and technical assistance to help organizations improve the quality of their HIV prevention programming.
Capacity Building Assistant
Venessa Laurel is an assistant in the Organizational Capacity Building branch at the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF), a national health justice organization which influences policy, mobilizes communities, and strengthens programs and organizations to improve the health of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.
Venessa provides administrative support to the HIV Program. She also manages electronic telecommunications, databases, and websites, coordinates conferences and meetings, and assists in program documentation, support, and evaluation.
Prior to joining APIAHF, Venessa was the events, help desk, and database coordinator for the California Charter Schools Association, where she provided technical assistance, conference and meeting coordination, and database management support for the Knowledge Management team. She has a passion for working for and supporting non-profit organizations.
