National AA and NHPI Health Care Reform Call-in Day!Call your Senators and Representative!
Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (AAs and NHPIs) need quality affordable health care. One in six Asian Americans and one in four Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders are uninsured. Even with coverage, AAs and NHPIs experience disparities in health outcomes and quality of care.
Please urge the CA State Assembly to pass SB 549. Tell your CA State Assembly Member to urge their colleagues on the Assembly Health Committee to support fair pricing for emergency room services by passing AB 1503. This includes funding for hospitals and health care providers to hire bilingual staff and translations of educational materials. Tell Governor Schwarzenegger and the California State Legislature's leadership that there must be a balance between cuts and revenues. Everyone must do their share to resolve the state's budget crisis so that the Golden State can live up to it's nickname. Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed a cuts-only budget to balance California's $23.4 billion deficit. In these difficult economic times, Asian American, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders cannot weather further cuts to critical safety net services and programs. Urge Your Senator to Support FDA Tobacco RegulationUrge your U.S. Senators to support S. 982, The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. Despite their harmful effects on our health, tobacco products are virtually unregulated. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) can regulate fast food, but not a pack of cigarettes. S. 982 would protect public health by ending this double standard and allowing the FDA to regulate tobacco products. |
