SAN FRANCISCO - Ho L. Tran, M.D., Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) president and CEO, announced that she will end her term as chief executive in October after leading the organization with distinction for more than seven years.
For more than 20 years Dr. Tran has been leading innovative legislative, policy, and community initiatives with an outstanding ability to establish coalitions between the public, private, and community sectors. Under Dr. Tran's leadership APIAHF has partnered with the W.K. Kellogg Foundation on a groundbreaking initiative, Health Through Action, to provide local communities with funding, training, and technical assistance to address health issues and strengthen a national network of advocates to create a broader Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) health movement.
"I want to thank you for your support over the years of my leadership at APIAHF and for your dedication to improving the health and well-being of our communities," said Dr. Tran. "I leave knowing that my work here will be continued by a talented and committed team which will work with our communities to ensure that our health issues are addressed at the local, state and federal levels. And I look forward to continuing my advocacy and contributing to the AA and NHPI health movement."
Dr. Tran has been an invaluable advocate for policy changes and for the elimination of health disparities. During her tenure at APIAHF she helped to create the Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Alliance and the National Council of API Physicians. She led the development of a national policy blueprint for AA and NHPI health and enhanced the organization's national presence and reach in Washington, D.C.
"There is no question that it will be difficult for us at APIAHF to see Dr. Tran leave. She has increased the visibility of our communities and has had a tremendous influence on the policies and practices of funders and policymakers," said Fatima Angeles, board chair of APIAHF. "At this time of hope and transition, we look back with pride at what Dr. Tran and APIAHF have accomplished. But more importantly we look forward to the role the APIAHF will play in further shaping, advancing, and delivering policies and programs that will improve the health of our communities."
