Guides to Health Care Reform Implementation

The Affordable Care Act will be implemented in different ways by each state, territory and U.S.- associated jurisdiction between now and the year 2014. To help advocates understand how the law will change their state and federal insurance programs, the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) developed 15 state guides to health reform implementation.

The guides describe the current public and private health insurance rules and requirements in each state, and summarize the actions that the state has taken to implement national health care reform to date. The guides also describe some of the important policy issues that Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community advocates should consider, and provides sample questions advocates should ask about health care reform implementation in each state.

Please note that the information provided in the guides reflect reform efforts that were current at the time of writing these guides. As federal and state laws, regulations, and budgets are implemented, the information in the guides will need to be updated. Please let us know about any changes and updates you learn about and we will make the appropriate adjustments.
