Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus Policy Summit
On June 6, 2005, APIAHF staff co-sponsored and attended the 2nd Annual California Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus Policy Summit, “Unity in Action,” in Sacramento. Workshops covered key issues such as civil rights and education, and emerging issues such as AAPI youth violence and mental health. The goal of the Summit was to create a California API Priorities Platform to help raise awareness of the issues and challenges faced by AAPIs and create opportunities for policymakers and members of the AAPI community to debate and develop solutions. It was also a good opportunity to get an inside look on how to effectively participate in state government. California currently has a record eight Asian Pacific Islanders serving in the State Legislature, offering AAPIs unprecedented levels of representation in the state public policy process.
