Letter to Governor in Support of AB 772
May 27, 2005
The Honorable Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
State Capitol Building

RE: AB 772 (Chan) – SUPPORT
Dear Governor Schwarzenegger :
I am writing on behalf of the Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF), a national policy advocacy organization with the mission of bringing the highest level of health and well-being to Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Founded in 1986, the organization approaches activities with the philosophy of coalition-building and partnership, capacity building, providing technical assistance and training, developing leadership and disseminating information.
Thank you for including additional funding in the budget for Healthy Families insurance outreach and to combat obesity. These are important items to improve the health of California children. We also appreciate Health and Human Services Secretary, S. Kimberly Belshé, participating in the 4200 person Children's Health Town Hall meeting on April 13, 2005.
We are writing today to respectfully request your support for Assembly Bill 772, by Assemblywoman Wilma Chan, to provide affordable health insurance for every child in California.
Despite recent gains, an increasing number of middle-class families are not covered by employer coverage and can no longer afford to purchase insurance, and many low-income families find themselves stymied by long, complex applications and the confusion created by a myriad of health programs.
The legislation and campaign for healthy kids is sponsored by the 100% Campaign, a collaborative effort of Children Now, Children's Defense Fund and The Children's Partnership, and the PICO California Project.
AB 772 is the right thing to do. It is needed, it will benefit children, and it will save resources. Please support AB 772.
Sincerely,
Ho Luong Tran, M.D., MPH
