SF Chronicle's John Diaz to speak at
“Having Our Say” Educational Forum
on April 2, 2004

San Francisco, California - John Diaz, Editorial Page Editor of the San Francisco Chronicle will be the keynote speaker of “Having Our Say,” an educational forum sponsored by the San Francisco-based Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum.

Community members and health advocates will come together at “Having Our Say” to debate and discuss issues and concerns of the Asian and Pacific Islander American communities and will present these to representatives of the Republican and Democratic parties. This event will mark a historic first, when the APIA community engages in direct dialogue with the two parties together in one venue.

At the keynote address, Diaz will talk about the general operations of the mainstream media - how stories get reported, and how editorials and opinion pieces are formed. He will also address media coverage of the presidential election and of minority and health issues.

A Bay Area native, Diaz joined the San Francisco Chronicle in 1990 as an assistant city editor and was promoted to his current position in 1996. An award winning journalist, Diaz has covered Congress, the White House and federal agencies, and was in charge of legal and political coverage of The Denver Post before returning to the Bay Area. He was a juror for the Pulitzer Prizes and a frequent commentator on local and national television news programs such as the "NewsHour with Jim Lehrer."
