Building Community Research Capacity
In support of the Health Through Action (HTA) Program, the RED team provides training and technical assistance to improve our community partners’ capacity to conduct research and use the findings strategically. We are conducting a series of webinars this year on community-based participatory research, research methods, data collection, analysis, and reporting, as well as how to use research and data strategically for policy advocacy, community education, and other interventions.
Building Infrastructure for Community Initiated Research on Health Disparities
In partnership with the New York University Center for the Study of Asian American Health (CSAAH), we established a national scientific partnership in 2009 to further health disparities research. The objectives for this partnership include convening a National Advisory Committee on Research Development (NAC), developing a community-based participatory research skills training curriculum for community-based organizations (CBOs) nationwide, and developing a set of national recommendations for advancing AA and NHPI health research. The NAC includes community leaders and researchers across the U.S. Working with CSAAH and our NAC partners, we are in the process of developing and implementing research strategies, curricula, and tools to increase the knowledge base at the community level and to strengthen the research capacity and infrastructure of CBOs.
