Understanding Population Counts for Asians and Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander (NHOPI)
-
"One or more groups within one race," refers to one way populations by race were tabulated.
Examples:
- An Asian respondent who self-identified as Vietnamese & Chinese would be counted as both.
- A NHOPI respondent who self-identified as Fijian Native Hawaiian, and Samoan to self-identify would be counted as all three.
- When respondents selected "One or more groups within one race," the population count was more than the population count by "One race alone."
NOTE: For the 1990 population counts, Taiwanese were included with Chinese. For the 2000 population counts, Taiwanese were NOT included with Chinese.
