Project I-CAN

The first goal of Project I-CAN is to increase the implementation of culturally-tailored policy, systems and environmental (PSE) strategies to improve access to healthy and safe natural and built environments, thereby increasing opportunities for physical activity and fitness for vulnerable AA and NHPI children 0-8 and their families.

  • Increase access to environments with free to low cost physical activity options for AA and NHPI children and families;
  • Implement tailored PSE strategies that focus on built environments and physical activity (e.g. shared-use agreements);
  • Increase AA and NHPI serving organizations’ capacities to implement and sustain their local PSE strategies.

The second goal of Project I-CAN is to document and disseminate promising practices for the cultural tailoring of PSE strategies to improve access to healthy and safe natural and built environments, thereby increasing opportunities for physical activity and fitness for vulnerable AA and NHPI children 0-8 and their families.

  • Partners will participate in APIAHF’s 3-year communication strategy plan to disseminate and elevate the needs and value of PSE strategies to improve access to healthy and safe natural and built environments.
