NHPI Alliance
Convening Community Leaders
The Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) communities and local community based organizations throughout the United States conducted community outreach, town hall meetings and conferences to determine the top priority health needs of the NHPI community as addressed by its members, chiefs, faith based representatives, business owners and health professionals. These activities resulted in the formation of a leadership body called the Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Alliance (NHPIA).
The NHPIA is a national non profit organization which generates a broad base of public and private support toward the further development and implementation of a NHPI Health Agenda. Four key strategies were identified by the NHPI community as their health priority needs:
- Advocacy
- Data Collection
- Resources
- Workforce
APIAHF facilitated the NHPIA and continues to support this process through the provision of technical assistance, infrastructure development and capacity building.
