The Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Health Brain Trust (HBT) is a group of select community members, advocates, researchers, health professionals, public health officials, and policy-makers learning about pressing health issues from the community and discussing the barriers to data collection and reporting on Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (NHPI).
A key outcome involves participants identifying strategies on how to increase data collection, analysis and reporting of NHPI health issues so that these data can help inform policy and interventions to eliminate health disparities and improve the health and well-being of Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders.
The first NHPI HBT took place in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 14-16, 2009 at the Tropicana Resort and Casino. The second NHPI HBT was held in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 8 & 9, 2009 at the State Capitol Building.
