Won Kim Cook
Senior Researcher
Won Kim Cook, PhD, is the Senior Researcher at the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF), a national health policy organization dedicated to strengthening policies, programs, and research to improve the health and well-being of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.
A sociologist by training with a Ph.D. from Northwestern University, Won Kim Cook has taught at various educational institutions, including Northwestern University, Beloit College, and California State University, East Bay. Her more recent training and work experience have been in Public Health: after receiving an MPH from University of California, Berkeley in 2006, she has been a Postdoctoral Fellow and Associate Scientist at the Alcohol Research Group affiliated with UC Berkeley's School of Public Health and the Public Health Institute.
With extensive experience conducting health and social research, she has developed strong research skills, both quantitative and qualitative, and is well-versed in research design, data collection and management, analysis, and reporting. She is keenly aware of class and racial inequalities in the United States and their negative impact on health and well-being of members of disadvantaged communities, and is committed to helping to address them through research, community work, and advocacy.
Won has a particularly strong interest in community-based participated research, occupational health, and alcohol and other drug use, with published articles in these areas. Previously she has served as the Executive Director of the Korean Community Center of the East Bay and a Project Director of Human Impact Partners.
