The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) influences policy, mobilizes communities, and strengthens programs and organizations to improve the health of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) populations. Title: Digital Communications Specialist
Reports to: Senior Communications Manager

Position Summary:

The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for assisting with the development and implementing effective communications strategies that advance the needs of APIAHF as a whole (overall marketing, messaging, collateral and fundraising (30% of time)) and communications related to the Policy, Advocacy and Network Innovation (PND) (70% of time) division. The Digital Communications Specialist works closely with the Senior Communications Manager, PND Senior Directors, Directors and Analysts to implement creative communications strategies that include online digital strategy (including social media and web presence) and media relations (via external consultant). Reports to the Senior Communications Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implements PND digital strategy under direction of the Senior Communications Manager.
  • Implements APIAHF’s story collection strategy, under director of Senior Communications Manager, with an emphasis on finding innovative, effective ways to organize stories and use them for communications functions to advance policy.
  • Designs and implements email marketing/paid advertising.
  • Design and produce APIAHF publications, marketing materials, and other media; working with Communications staff/external consultants to implement formatting and layout.
  • Support and implement marketing and PND communications campaigns.
  • Assists with drafting content as needed. Primarily responsible for strategizing and drafting social media, email and website content and implementation.
  • Maintain APIAHF photo databases. * Coordinate and assist with special projects and events.
  • Update and edit APIAHF, AIM for Equity, VOICES, Forums at the Forums websites.
  • Create marketing emails and campaigns on Salsa Labs or other advocacy CRMs.
  • Supports account leads by writing HTML for email and web, implementing projects, and contributing to the overall direction of the account.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or at least 2 years of experience with communications, journalism, marketing, or public communications or related fields.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in communications.
  • Minimum 2+ years relevant experience designing, implementing and managing projects focused on high-impact population-wide strategies and/or policy advocacy campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience in monitoring and evaluating programmatic efforts.
  • Expertise working in a team-based environment.
Skills, knowledge and abilities:
  • Hires will be expected to write copy meeting agency standards on a quick turnaround, bring creative and designed to get strong results.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and internet applications in a Windows environment.
  • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and social media sites, Google Analytics, Hootsuite, and other third party systems used for developing digital metrics.
  • Experience working with advocacy engagement platforms like SalsaLabs or similar platform.
  • Experience in publishing, coding (HTML and CSS), design and/or copy writing.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in team environment.
  • Public speaking, facilitation, technical assistance, training, and writing skills.
Desired Qualifications:
  • General knowledge of health policy, community organizing, campaign design and strategy, civic engagement campaigns and community empowerment frameworks.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of equivalent experience, managing in a community organization and/or designing and implementing campaigns.
  • Experience in building community coalitions which engage in collective action.
  • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and social media sites, Google Analytics, Hootsuite, and other third party systems used for developing digital metrics.
  • Policy advocacy background preferred.
  • Health field expertise and knowledge preferred.
  • Bilingual/bi-literate in an Asian or Pacific Island language.
