The Asian & Pacific Islander Health Forum (APIAHF) influences policy, mobilizes communities, and strengthens programs and organizations to improve the health of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) populations. Title:                           Program Manager

Position Summary:

The Program Manager will be responsible for managing one or more of APIAHF’s programs to support and promote positive health outcomes and health justice for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) communities.  The Program Manager will develop and maintain relationships with AA and NHPI-serving community-based organizations, health departments, and health advocates to engage them in program activities.  The Program Manager will also manage the delivery of capacity-building assistance, technical support, and other training to health departments and culturally-diverse community partners.  The Program Manager may be responsible for supervising and directing staff members who will support their projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the timely development, implementation, grant compliance, and evaluation of health-related projects funded by federal grants and cooperative agreements.
  • Evaluate project proposals and grant requirements and provide assessments of necessary proficiencies, technologies, and other resources.
  • Develop and monitor project budgets.
  • Establish relationships with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other federal agencies and communicate regularly about CDC-funded projects.
  • Collaborate with other staff members and, as necessary, supervise and direct project-focused staffers.
  • Contribute to broader project planning and management initiatives and collaborate with other program staff.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with organizational partners.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health or other related health field or 4+ years of related work experience with increasing responsibilities and authority.
  • Minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience with increasing levels of responsibility and authority, including but not limited to management of multiple projects and grants, monitoring and compliance, program evaluation, and program delivery.
  • Experience working with community coalitions and cross-team partnerships.

Knowledge of AA and NHPI communities, both locally and nationally.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet short deadlines.
  • Comfortable in a digital environment and able to quickly learn new technology tools and platforms.
  • Ability to interact positively and effectively with internal and external stakeholders through written, verbal, and non-verbal communication.
  • Strong public speaking skills and ability to effectively represent the program and APIAHF in the community and to funders.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in public health, public administration, or related health field and 4+ years of related work experience with increasing responsibility and authority.
  • Experience working with communities of color in health, policy, healthcare, or other areas of disparities.
  • Experience managing federally-funded projects.
  • Experience working with the CDC.
  • Direct experience working in AA and NHPI communities, particularly NH, PI, South Asian, or Southeast Asian communities.
  • Understanding of the implications of national and local politics and policy on AA and NHPI communities.
