Dr. Diane Paloma has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of Hawaii Dental Service (HDS) since November 2021. HDS is the leading provider of dental benefits plans in Hawaii with more than 600,000 members throughout Hawaii, Guam and Saipan, and has the largest network of participating dentists in the state.
Prior to joining HDS, Dr. Paloma was the Chief Executive Officer for the King Lunalilo Trust and Home. Lunalilo Home offers residential care, adult day care, home meal delivery and respite care for kupuna as directed by the legacy of King William Charles Lunalilo, the sixth reigning monarch of Hawai‘i. She is the former Director of The Queen’s Health Systems, Native Hawaiian Health Program. Prior to Queen’s she spent time at the John A. Burns School of Medicine as a faculty member, worked for HMSA and its subsidiaries (a Blue Cross/Blue Shield Company), and started her career working for a private physician.
A Kamehameha Schools graduate, she received her BS in Physiological Science from UCLA, MBA from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, and PhD in Healthcare Administration from Capella University. Diane has spent her career in the health field since 1995 and was able to combine her passion for Native Hawaiian culture with the health and medical fields.
She volunteers her time as a board member for Child & Family Service, the Hawaii Business Roundtable, The Salvation Army, Asian Pacific Islander American Health Forum, Partners in Development Foundation, and serves on the Bishop Museum Association Council as well as the Shidler College of Business Advisory Council. She was also appointed by the Governor of the State of Hawai’i as a University of Hawai‘i Regent in 2021.
In 2002, she completed the ‘uniki process for the status of ‘ōlapa with Ka Pa Hula O Kamehameha. She currently serves as ‘alaka‘i (halau leader) for Ka Pā Hula O Ka Lei Lehua.
