MQVN CDC’s mission is to preserve and promote our unique diversity and improving the quality of life of residents in the Greater New Orleans area, beginning in New Orleans East. Together with community partners, our work encompasses health care, environmental and agricultural concerns, education, housing, social services, economic development and culture and the arts.

 

Accelerator Lab Partner:

James Bui, Interim Executive Director, MQVN CDC

With over 20 years in community development and impact investing, James provides strategy, organizing and management capacity, especially in social entrepreneurship and impact investments in micro-finance, workforce development, affordable housing and sustainable agriculture. He also leads the development of impact metrics and evaluative studies. Prior to MQVN CDC, James worked as principal consultant on affordable housing, workforce development and clean energy projects for a number of clients including the IFC, FMO and non-profit organizations worldwide.

He helped raise and implement over USD50 million for social impact projects, particularly in post Hurricane Katrina reconstruction and clean water projects in Southeast Asia. James holds a Masters from the University of Michigan and was awarded graduate fellowships in community economic development at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and UCLA.


Khai Nguyen, Program Manager, MQVN CDC

Khai Nguyen is from New Orleans and grew up in the Village de L’est community that MQVN CDC serves and has a familiar connection with many of our constituents. Khai attended Tulane University in New Orleans and has been with MQVN CDC since 2010 when he worked as a case manager assisting community members in the aftermath of the BP oil spill. Since then, he has worked on a wide range of projects as a program office and program manager. He manages the VEGGI Farmers Cooperative, which was created as a workforce development project for community members affected by the oil spill. He has also worked on projects focusing on: environmental justice, business development, civic engagement, social services, language access, community health, and others. He has worked with coalitions and partners throughout New Orleans and south Louisiana.
