WASHINGTON – Today, the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) and 27 national and community Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AA NHPI) organizations, in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, launched the National AA NHPI Health Response Partnership (the Partnership) to offer culturally and linguistically accessible resources for AA NHPI communities.
The Partnership is a community centered model that provides on-the-ground public health resources and assistance across the nation. Additionally, the Partnership makes available its resources online through AA-NHPIHealthResponse.org.
The Partnership will initially focus on resources for COVID-19, specifically vaccinations, data accumulation efforts, public service announcements and health education. Materials will be available in more than 20 AA and NHPI languages, including: Chinese, Vietnamese, Bengali, Korean, Urdu, Tagalog, Native Hawaiian, Tongan, Samoan, Marshallese and Chuukese.
The Partnership will enable unreached populations to be heard and empowered to confidently make decisions that would benefit the health of themselves, their families and their communities. This includes:
- AA NHPI communities that are vulnerable to COVID-19;
- Limited English proficient speakers; and
- The general public to increase awareness and highlight the negative, disproportionate impacts on AA NHPI communities caused by COVID-19.
The goals of the Partnership will be achieved through Forging Partnerships, which supports the needs of AA NHPI communities and their response to COVID-19, and Engaging Communities in Adult Vaccination to increase acceptance of vaccines and increase access to immunization services.
