APIAHF

APIAHF and its national, state and local partners submitted comments to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in support of updating the agency’s standards for maintaining, collecting and presenting federal data on race and ethncity, also known as OMB Directive 15. OMB Directive 15 was last updated in 1997 where the “Asian and Pacific Islander” category was separated into “Asian” and “Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander.”

In the comments, APIAHF supported the following measures put forth by OMB:

  • Required Collection of Detailed Race & Ethnicity Data by Default
  • Updates to Race & Ethnicity Classification Terminology
  • Support Addition of Middle Eastern or North African (MENA) as New Minimum Category

In addition to outlining the need for data that is accurate and reflective of AA and NH/PI communities, APIAHF included testimonials and examples on the impact of data collection and disaggregation.
