The Affordable Care Act provides new health insurance coverage options and incentives for small business owners, employees, and their families. With high rates of both small business ownership and uninsurance, these options will be particularly helpful for the Asian American (AA) and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) community. The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum conducted a study of AA and NHPI small business owners and employees throughout California to evaluate their socioeconomic and health status and understand the barriers they face in getting health insurance. Based on our analysis of California Health Interview Survey data and focus group research, we identified several important findings in this issue brief.
