WASHINGTON — Kathy Ko Chin, president and CEO of the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF), issued a statement reacting to the Senate’s Corker – Hoeven border security amendment to the Senate immigration bill (S. 744):
“We are deeply troubled by news that a significantly ramped-up border security agreement has been reached that makes unnecessary and unworkable concessions to the health and wellbeing of immigrants, their families and our entire nation.
At a time when we are so close to reaching a historic and much-needed fix to our broken system, politics is again getting in the way of creating real and workable solutions. We will continue to work with Congress in the days ahead to make sure that the result is a bill that is fair and puts our nation on a healthy and sustainable future for all.”
APIAHF is analyzing the Corker – Hoeven amendment, an omnibus amendment to the Senate immigration bill, scheduled for a Senate floor vote on Monday. Senator Reid has promised to have a full Senate vote on the final immigration bill prior to the July 4th recess.
