WASHINGTON – The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) issued the following statement following the Senate’s vote 50 – 49 to confirm California Attorney General Xavier Becerra as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
“We congratulate Secretary Xavier Becerra on his confirmation to lead HHS,” said Juliet K. Choi, APIAHF president and CEO. “He has been a fierce ally to the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community, and people of color, both in his time as California Attorney General and in Congress. Over the course of his career in public service, Secretary Becerra helped pass the Affordable Care Act, and later defended it when it was under attack. We have no doubt that under his leadership at HHS, he will continue to advocate for the most vulnerable Americans, and, in partnership with communities, successfully guide our nation through the COVID-19 pandemic.”
